World Changing: A user's guide for the 21st century

World Changing: A user's guide for the 21st century
Edited by Alex Steffen

This amazing book has been a constant resource for info and inspiration throughout the house project. It isn't the work of any one author, but is a collaboration between many. Our project is closely allied with it in terms of sustainability, design, and open-source and collaborative work. It constantly references what companies and individuals are doing right now in the sustainability dialogue, which is really inspiring and keeps that futility panic at bay.

It is divided up into sections: Stuff, Shelter, Cities, Community, Business, Politics, and Planet. Under each heading is a collection of more specific subjects, such as "the future of food" and "creating healthy homes."

The analysis is thoughtful and well-researched. I recommend everyone pick up this book for at least a quick glance, although it is quite hefty for a full read.

If you've read it, any comments or thoughts on the specific sections would be appreciated.

  1. Really enjoyed the 'reference book' setup- it's very easy to access information specific to what you're looking for. We can definitely use it as a source for articles on the wiki- which we should be focusing on this week to put into our communication booklet.
